"Into the Zone" Program
The Zones of Regulation ®
By Leah Kuypers, M. A. Ed., OTR/L
It is essential to:
Avoid impulses and/or emotions that could prove to be negative
The Zones of Regulation® is a cognitive behavioral approach used to teach self-regulation by categorizing the ways we feel and states of alertness we experience into four zones. By addressing underlying deficits in emotional and sensory regulation, executive functions, and social cognition, the program provides strategies for students to become more aware and better able to control their emotions and impulses, manage their sensory needs, and improve their ability to problem-solve.
This program is recommended for elementary aged children with the following symptoms:
- Being hyper-responsive/ hypo-responsive
- Difficulty shifting focus
- Difficulty controlling impulses
- Emotionally reactive
- Difficulty monitoring performance (academic/ behavioural)
- Difficulty paying attention
